Undergraduate
Program in Mathematics at Tennessee Tech
The TTU undergraduate mathematics curriculum provides students
with a solid foundation in mathematics while offering a high degree of
flexibility in course selection. In addition, a required 15
credit-hour minor enables students to demonstrate knowledge of a
subject area other than mathematics. Consequently, our students
are able to prepare for many different career paths in business,
industry, education, and government. The courses
required
for the B.S.degree include 3 semesters of English; 2 semesters each of
American History; Humanities/Fine Arts; Social Science (sociology,
psychology, economics, etc.), a Foreign Language (French, German,
Russian, or Spanish), a year-long sequence
in a laboratory science (biology, chemistry, or physics), 4 credit
hours of computer science; 1 semester of Speech or
Professional Communication, and a First-Year Connection. In addition,
forty-seven semester hours of
mathematics
are required. To help students develop a course of study suited
to their career goals, the department has identified four optional
tracks of courses:
The Actuarial Mathematics
Track
The Applied Mathematics Track
The Pure Mathematics Track
The Statistics Track
A student interested in becoming a high school math teacher can earn
a minor in Secondary Education while
working towards a B.S. in mathematics.
