Tennessee Alpha Chapter of KME

Membership Requirements

KME is a national mathematics honor society that was founded in 1931.  Tennessee Technological University (then Tennessee Polytechnic Institute) started its own chapter of KME, the Tennessee Alpha chapter, in 1941.  As Corresponding Secretary for the Tennessee Alpha chapter of KME, it is my job to invite qualified individuals at Tennessee Technological University to join KME and to induct them into the organization once each year.

If you are currently, or were at one time, a non-transfer student (undergraduate or graduate) at Tennessee Technological University, then you must meet the following two qualifications prior to induction into KME:

  1. You must have successfully completed at least three semesters of coursework at Tennessee Technological University either as a part-time or a full-time student, and rank in the upper 35% of your class at Tennessee Technological University.
  2. You must have completed at least three college-level courses in mathematics at Tennessee Technological University including at least one semester of calculus at Tennessee Technological University (that is, either MATH 1830, MATH 1910, MATH 1920, or MATH 2110) and attained an average grade of “B” or higher in all mathematics courses taken at Tennessee Technological University.

If you are currently, or were at one time, a transfer student (undergraduate or graduate) at Tennessee Technological University, then you must meet the following two qualifications prior to induction into KME:

  1. You must have successfully completed at least one semester of coursework at Tennessee Technological University either as a part-time or a full-time student after having transferred from another institution, and rank in the upper 35% of your class at Tennessee Technological University.
  2. You must have completed at least three college-level courses in mathematics including at least one college-level course in mathematics at Tennessee Technological University and including at least one semester of calculus (not necessarily at Tennessee Technological University) and attained an average grade of “B” or higher in all mathematics courses taken at Tennessee Technological University.

If you are currently, or were at one time, a faculty member at Tennessee Technological University, then you must have completed at least three college-level courses in mathematics including at least one semester of calculus prior to induction into KME.

If you believe that you meet the above qualifications, please submit a copy of each relevant academic transcript (unofficial copies are acceptable) to me by February 15, 2008.  I intend to have the next induction ceremony sometime in early-mid April, 2008.  I will personally verify whether or not an applicant is in the upper 35% of his or her class.

Please note that successful applicants will be asked to pay a one time only due of $35 ($20 for the national due and $15 for the local due).  A successful applicant will not be considered inducted into KME until the full due is paid.
